Technical challenges rarely exist in isolation — they're rooted in business context. Once we understand that context, the right solution follows. That's where good cooperation starts.

project background

Our partner operates a large product deployed across multiple environments and used daily by thousands of users. Over time, technical debt and legacy technologies began limiting further growth. Development slowed down, maintenance costs increased and introducing new capabilities became increasingly difficult.

goal

The challenge was not to replace the platform, but to help it evolve. The transformation had to happen gradually, without disrupting daily operations, existing deployments or ongoing product development.

our approach

Key decisions
behind safe evolution

From the beginning, the transformation was carried out in close cooperation with the client’s teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and long-term ownership on their side. Instead of rewriting the system or introducing unnecessary complexity, we focused on an architecture that enabled safe, gradual evolution while keeping the platform fully operational. We adopted a Modular Monolith architecture, allowing individual parts of the system to evolve independently while remaining compatible with legacy components.

our Process

A controlled approach
to transformation

Step-by-step modernization

Legacy components were modernized incrementally, allowing the system to evolve without disrupting existing workflows or deployments.

Uninterrupted product operation

The platform remained fully operational throughout the transformation, ensuring business continuity and supporting ongoing releases.

Continuous delivery of business value

New capabilities were delivered in short iterations, allowing modernization efforts to create measurable value from day one.

Minimized transformation risk

Architectural decisions focused on reducing technical and operational risk while preparing the platform for future growth.
OUTCOME

One platform,
evolving over time

Rather than delivering a one-time modernization project, we became part
of the product’s long-term evolution. Our teams worked closely with product owners and engineering teams, gradually modernizing the platform while supporting ongoing development and releases. Today, we continue supporting the platform’s growth across multiple business domains.

The right modernization doesn’t interrupt the business. It restores the flexibility, reliability and speed needed to keep evolving.

New tax calculation platform built from scratch

Business context

The client needed a new tax calculation platform capable of supporting complex business processes and future regulatory changes. The project required both domain expertise and close collaboration with stakeholders.

Our approach

We designed the solution from scratch using Event Storming workshops and domain-driven modeling. This allowed us to understand the business context before making architectural decisions.

Business value

The platform provided a scalable foundation for future development and strengthened collaboration between technical and business teams. The workshops also improved domain understanding across the organization and accelerated future initiatives.

Code is just the final translation. Event Storming is where the real work happens — aligning developers and domain experts so we actually solve the right problem from day one.

Modernized accounting without breaking legacy compatibility

Business context

One of the platform’s most strategic areas relied on a legacy accounting solution that had been evolving for more than twenty years. The challenge was to modernize the experience without changing critical business rules or breaking compatibility with existing data structures.

Our approach

Using Domain-Driven Design techniques, we rebuilt the accounting domain while preserving backward compatibility. The new architecture supported budgeting, receivables, payables and accounting processes within a unified model.

Business value

Users gained modern, reliable accounting tools while maintaining continuity with existing processes. The new architecture improved data integrity, reduced operational risk and prepared the platform for future growth.

Accounting is the beating heart of this platform. Using Domain-Driven Design meant we didn't just rewrite code—we precisely modeled the reality of their complex financial processes.

Flexible access control across the platform

Business context

Different user groups required different levels of access to business data and workflows. The client needed a flexible solution configurable by non-technical users and applicable across the entire platform.

Our approach

We developed a configurable permission model that could be reused across multiple domains and features. The solution was designed to remain consistent from both technical and user perspectives.

Business value

The platform gained a scalable access model without requiring case-by-case development. Enterprise customers could adapt permissions to their needs while maintaining a consistent user experience.

Security and flexibility don't have to be opposites. The right architecture keeps the system perfectly safe, while adapting naturally to how people actually work.

Scalable integrations without impacting the core system

Business context

The growing number of customer-specific integrations increased development costs, introduced security concerns and slowed release cycles. Each new integration required modifications to the core platform, making the approach difficult to scale.

Our approach

We introduced a plugin-based integration engine that isolated integrations from the main application. The solution allowed new integrations to be delivered independently, without exposing the underlying architecture or affecting the release process.

Business value

The new architecture significantly reduced the time needed to implement customer-specific integrations. It lowered maintenance costs, improved security and enabled the platform to scale without increasing complexity inside the core system.

A good architecture doesn't limit what's possible — it's what makes flexibility possible in the first place.

Unified task workflows across the platform

Business context

The platform had been evolving for years and remained commercially successful, but further development was becoming increasingly difficult. Off-the-shelf task management tools could not support the client’s authorization model and tightly coupled business processes. At the same time, the product operated across multiple on-premises and cloud environments, making breaking changes unacceptable.

Our approach

Rather than integrating a generic solution, we designed a custom task management module tailored to the product’s architecture and user model. The solution was deeply integrated with existing workflows while preserving compatibility with legacy deployments.

Business value

The new module unified task workflows across the platform and eliminated the need for complex third-party integrations. It improved maintainability, reduced development overhead and created a foundation for future product growth.

When generic tools fail, it's usually because your business process is your competitive advantage. You shouldn't adapt your business to the tool—you build the tool around the business.
